Detecting saccades with jerk
نویسنده
چکیده
In studies of smooth eye movements, saccades are often detected and removed from eye movement records during analysis. A simple and effective method for saccade detection is described; the method uses jerk (the third derivative of eye position with respect to time).

The spectral main sequence of human saccades.
Despite the many models of saccadic eye movements, little attention has been paid to the shape of saccade trajectories. Some investigators have argued that saccades are driven by a rectangular "bang-bang" neural control signal, whereas others have emphasized the similarity to fast arm movement trajectories, such as the "minimum jerk" profile. However, models have not been tested rigorously agai...
متن کاملCharacteristic Eye Movements in Ataxia-Telangiectasia-Like Disorder: An Explanatory Hypothesis
Objective To investigate cerebellar dysfunctions and quantitatively characterize specific oculomotor changes in ataxia-telangiectasia-like disorder (ATLD), a rare autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the MRE11 gene. Additionally, to further elucidate the pathophysiology of cerebellar damage in the ataxia-telangiectasia (AT) spectrum disorders. Methods Saccade dynamics, metrics, ...
متن کاملEye movement instabilities and nystagmus can be predicted by a nonlinear dynamics model of the saccadic system.
The study of eye movements and oculomotor disorders has, for four decades, greatly benefitted from the application of control theoretic concepts. This paper is an example of a complementary approach based on the theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. Recently, a nonlinear dynamics model of the saccadic system was developed, comprising a symmetric piecewise-smooth system of six first-order auton...
متن کاملSaccade detection using a particle filter.
BACKGROUND When healthy subjects track a moving target, "catch-up" saccades are triggered to compensate for the non-perfect tracking gain. The evaluation of the pursuit and/or saccade kinematics requires that saccade and pursuit components be separated from the eye movement trace. A similar situation occurs when analyzes eye movements of patients that could contain eye drifts between saccades. ...
متن کاملLatent nystagmus and acquired pendular nystagmus masquerading as spasmus nutans.
SUMMARY We used ocular motility recordings to identify the characteristics of a rare combination of conjugate, horizontal jerk, and pendular nystagmus in a 9-year-old boy. The clinical diagnoses were amblyopia, left esotropia, congenital nystagmus, and an apparently uniocular pendular nystagmus that mimicked spasmus nutans. Ocular motility recordings revealed an unusual latent/manifest latent n...
